The new uniform rules
Schools can only insist on three branded items
Under the Children's Wellbeing and Schools Act, schools in England are limited to requiring three branded uniform items, with a branded tie allowed on top of that at secondary level. Everything else on the uniform list has to be something families can buy anywhere.
That sits on top of existing statutory guidance, which already tells schools to keep branded items to a minimum, avoid single-supplier deals where they push prices up, and make sure second-hand uniform is genuinely available.
In practice, the bulk of a uniform list is now plain: a coloured sweatshirt or cardigan, polo shirts, trousers, skirts, shorts and PE kit. That is exactly what we supply, in school colours, at value prices, so the saving lands with parents rather than a supplier.
What it means in practice
- A maximum of three compulsory branded items, plus a branded tie in secondary schools.
- Plain items cannot be tied to one named shop, so families can shop on price.
- Logos can move onto badges, ties or a single sweatshirt rather than every garment.
- Unbranded uniform is easier to hand down, swap or resell, cutting cost again.
- Schools keep their identity while parents pay a fraction of branded prices.
Guidance and timings can change and vary across the UK nations. Check your school's current uniform policy, and we're happy to talk through how to hit the requirements at the lowest cost.

Why buy from us
Cheaper uniform without cheap uniform
Genuinely low prices
Unbranded uniform is the cheapest way to kit a child out. We buy plain garments in volume and pass the saving on, with no logo fee and no exclusive supplier mark-up.
Matched to your colours
Send us the shade your school uses and we'll match it from our colour range, so unbranded pieces sit alongside existing uniform without looking out of place.
Built for school life
Reinforced seams, colour-fast dyes and fabrics chosen to hold shape through repeated hot washes, playground use and a full academic year.
Easy to hand down
With no name or crest on the garment, uniform can be passed between siblings, donated to a school swap shop or resold locally.
Ready for term time
Stock ranges ship quickly across the UK, and we plan ahead with schools and PTAs so orders land well before the start of term.
Branded items too
For the small number of pieces a school still requires with a logo, we embroider in-house on Happy Japan machines, so you can order everything in one place.
Let's get your uniform list down to three branded items
Send us your current list and we'll come back with an unbranded equivalent in your colours, costed per child, plus pricing for the branded pieces you want to keep. Bulk discounts apply automatically on larger orders, and we can support uniform banks and new starter packs.
School uniform questions
Can we buy unbranded uniform if our school has a named supplier?+
For plain items with no logo, yes. Schools cannot require families to buy unbranded pieces such as plain trousers, skirts, shirts or a plain coloured sweatshirt from one named shop, so you are free to buy them wherever they are cheapest.
Do you supply schools directly as well as parents?+
Both. Parents can order individual pieces with no minimum, and schools, academy trusts and PTAs can order bulk stock for uniform banks, new starter packs and PE kit at tiered volume pricing.
What if we need a logo on some items?+
We embroider or print logos in-house. Send us your crest, we'll digitise it once (a small one-off setup fee) and it's then on file for every future order.
How do we get the sizing right?+
Every product page lists chest, waist and age measurements. For schools we can supply a sizing set so families can try before ordering, which cuts returns considerably.
Is there a minimum order?+
No. One polo shirt is a perfectly valid order, and bulk discounts apply automatically as quantities increase.
